Nadir Hifi replaces Matthew Strazel for EuroBasket 2025!

A tough blow for Matthew Strazel (1.82m, 23 years old) and the French team. The AS Monaco point guard (20 caps) will not play in EuroBasket 2025. Injured in the thigh against Spain on August 16, he won’t recover in time for the competition. The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) officially announced this Sunday evening his replacement by Nadir Hifi (1.85m, 23 years old, 6 caps), who will join the team this Monday in Poland.

Strazel out, Hifi called up
Suffering from a thigh injury, Matthew Strazel underwent treatment with Monaco and then with the French medical staff, but examinations in Athens confirmed that he needed an extended rest period, followed by physical reconditioning. These timeframes are incompatible with EuroBasket.
Nadir Hifi, who was the last player cut from the squad last week, benefits from this withdrawal to rejoin Les Bleus. The 23-year-old guard will strengthen the backcourt rotation and will be available from Monday in Katowice.

Reorganized backcourt
Frédéric Fauthoux will now have two natural point guards, Théo Maledon and Sylvain Francisco, as well as two hybrid profiles capable of playing positions 1 and 2: Elie Okobo and Nadir Hifi. The French staff hopes to maintain the balance of its backcourt despite the absence of an important player.
The French team will begin its European campaign this Thursday, August 28, against Belgium.
