Maxime Carène targeted by Évreux to restart his career in France

Pro B - After a successful season in Austria with Kapfenberg, Maxime Carène could join ALM Évreux in Pro B, according to Paris-Normandie. An important step for the Martinican center who hopes to follow Yvan Ouedraogo's path. The latter might actually stay.

Maxime Carene (2.08 m, 23 years old) is getting closer to returning to France. According to Paris-Normandie, the Martinican center is targeted by ALM Évreux in Pro B after a convincing season in Austria with Kapfenberg. This return to France would be a new step in rebuilding the career of a player long considered a French basketball prospect.

A successful stint in Austria

After experiencing a series of difficult spells between Nationale 1, Spain, Belgium, and an unsuccessful G-League stint with the Texas Legends, Maxime Carène found his rhythm and confidence this season in Austria. With Kapfenberg, he established himself as a team pillar: 11.4 points with 72.8% shooting accuracy, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 29 minutes for a 15.1 evaluation. A very solid performance that confirms the hopes placed in him after leaving Pôle France and Limoges CSP.

When interviewed at the start of the season, the player explained his choice of this destination after several months without a club: « I needed to be somewhere where I had the coach’s trust to get back on track. […] Even though we don’t talk about it much, the Austrian championship has quite a respectable level. »

A springboard to Pro B?

After finding real stability at Kapfenberg, Maxime Carène hopes to take another step forward by returning to a more prominent championship. ALM Évreux, which has already successfully revived Yvan Ouedraogo’s career, seems a logical destination. Like his former Pôle France teammate, the former French U16 and U17 international hopes to get his career back on track in a favorable environment. Moreover, he could reform a complementary duo with Ouedraogo, whose contract extension is possible according to Paris-Normandie.

The comparison is not insignificant: Ouedraogo, who arrived after two complex experiences abroad, managed to recover in Normandy at the end of the season. For Carène, this return to the French environment could serve as a springboard toward a lasting place in the professional landscape.
