It’s official: Marie-Sophie Obama is no longer in charge of ASVEL Women. After several months of withdrawal, her departure from the club is now official, as announced by the Lyon organization this Wednesday.

A major figure in ASVEL Women’s rise to power

Arriving in 2017 alongside Tony Parker, Marie-Sophie Obama has accompanied the development of ASVEL Women. For eight years, she worked to structure the club, focusing on both its sporting progress and societal positioning.

A personal choice

Returning to the South-West, Marie-Sophie Obama turns a page in her professional career. The management now continues with Esther Bottalico (deputy general director), Paoline Salagnac (sports and development director), Cyrille Aubert (administrative and financial director) and Tony Parker, club president.

« It’s a page that turns for LDLC ASVEL Women, and a new one that begins for Marie-Sophie. We experienced great emotions together and accomplished beautiful things, » declared her longtime associate Tony Parker in the statement. It was TP who brought her to Lyon and encouraged her to get involved in several of his entrepreneurial projects. This is how she became president and director of Infinity Nine Mountain in 2019, in charge of operating the ski area and mechanical lifts at the Villard-Corrençon resort. An activity as pressuring as it was energy-consuming.

Two French championship titles

Under her presidency, ASVEL Women won two French championship titles, in 2019 and 2023, under different circumstances. The Rhône club, now in clear decline on the national scene, « warmly thanks Marie-Sophie for her total commitment, her humanistic and benevolent vision. »
