The Phoenix Suns pulled off a surprise Thursday night, winning 113-110 against the Los Angeles Lakers thanks to a decisive 3-pointer by Royce O’Neale with 0.9 seconds left. A victory all the more precious as the Arizona team was playing without its two leading scorers.
Grayson Allen and Collin Gillespie Lead Suns’ Offense
Without Devin Booker (hip injury) and Dillon Brooks (hand fracture), the Suns found unexpected offensive solutions. Grayson Allen led the charge with 28 points, particularly effective in the third quarter where he scored 16 points while hitting four 3-pointers. His explosiveness allowed Phoenix to come back from a 13-point deficit to tie at 80-80 before the final quarter.
Collin Gillespie also shined by hitting four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter alone, finishing the game with 21 points. Long-range shooting was the key to the Suns’ success, as they converted 22 of their 50 3-point attempts (44%).
A Thrilling Finish Down to the Final Seconds
The Lakers showed admirable character by coming back from a 12-point deficit in the final six minutes. Austin Reaves tied the game at 108-108 on a 3-pointer with one minute remaining, before O’Neale gave the Suns the lead (110-108) on an offensive rebound. LeBron James responded with a basket off an offensive rebound to tie it at 110-110 with 22.7 seconds left.
On the decisive possession, Allen drove into the paint before finding Gillespie in the corner. Gillespie quickly swung the ball to an open O’Neale, who didn’t hesitate to give the Suns the victory. Austin Reaves had a chance to tie at the buzzer but his open 3-pointer missed the mark.

This victory improves the Suns’ record to 2 wins and 3 losses since the All-Star Break. For the first time in five games, Phoenix exceeded 100 points in regulation time, showing they can compensate for the absence of the Booker-Brooks duo that usually combines for around 45 points per game.
