Update: As we announced almost two weeks ago, Killian Hayes has signed with Cleveland. His agent Yann Balikouzou confirmed the information to Hoopshype.
The French point guard will participate in the Cavaliers’ training camp, hoping for more… The exact nature of the contract is unknown, but it’s unlikely to be guaranteed. In fact, it’s probable that the former Cholet player will be linked to the Charge, the Cavs’ G-League affiliate.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and former No. 7 overall pick Killian Hayes have agreed to a deal, agent Yann Balikouzou of @LIFTSPORTSMNGMT told @hoopshype. (Original news, September 12): Still without a team for the 2025-2026 season, Killian Hayes (6’5″, 24 years old) will participate in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ preseason camp according to our information.
The French-American point guard, who had attracted interest from European clubs this summer and even received an offer from ASVEL, preferred to continue exploring the NBA market.
Drafted seventh overall in 2020, Killian Hayes failed to establish himself with the Detroit Pistons. They waived him at the end of the 2023-2024 season. Signed by the Nets in summer 2024, he mainly played in G-League before getting an NBA opportunity during a 10-day contract, which wasn’t renewed. The Florida native then returned to Long Island, before ending his season with a severe ankle sprain.
Next goal: convincing Kenny Atkinson
In Cleveland, Killian Hayes will have the opportunity to prove his worth to the Cavaliers’ staff led by former French national team assistant coach Kenny Atkinson. However, it won’t be easy to secure a guaranteed contract with the franchise that finished with the best regular season record in the East in 2024-2025 (64 wins and 18 losses).
