Joan Beringer not yet seeing much daylight in the NBA
The former Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia) big man who was trained in Strasbourg and selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 17th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft has played 12 games in the Big League so far. Behind several established big men like his compatriot Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid and Julius Randle, the Alsatian is struggling to carve out his place.

He’s averaging 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in less than 5 minutes. Despite some good games, notably on November 17, 2025 when he took advantage of a large lead to post 6 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block in 7 minutes (120-96 victory over the Dallas Mavericks), the rookie needs to mature more in the development league. As such, he’s been sent to the G-League to develop and showcase himself more. After six games across all competitions, he’s posting naturally elevated averages with 13.2 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1 assist in 29 minutes.
The Wolves finding their rhythm in the G-League
After a 120-114 loss to the Skyforce this Saturday, January 4th (12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks in 29 minutes for Beringer), the Wolves got their revenge in this back-to-back against a top 6 team. They returned to a winning record (4 wins and 3 losses) and secured seventh place in the Western Conference. After a third-place finish in their division during the Tip-Off Tournament (pre-regular season tournament), the Wolves are showing an average but much better record than last season when they finished in last place in the West with a record of 7 wins and 27 losses.
Following his strong performance (recording his season-high in rebounds and the team’s second-best performance), Joan Beringer confirms his steady progress, showing all the signs of a medium to long-term project for Minnesota. The Timberwolves, currently 6th in the Western Conference with 22 wins and 13 losses, may need his services soon as the schedule intensifies before the NBA All-Star Game.
