JL Bourg: Kevin Kokila promoted to captain, Adam Mokoka vice-captain

Three years after joining Bourg-en-Bresse, Kevin Kokila (2.04m, 24) takes a new step in his career. The Angolan international, recruited in summer 2022 as the third-choice center, has established himself as a key player in the Bourg roster. A regular starter for two seasons, the Paris region native has just been promoted to captain by Frédéric Fauthoux according to Le Progrès. He succeeds Hugo Benitez, who left the club during the offseason to join Spanish team Manresa.

A logical promotion according to Fauthoux

« He’s the one who knows the club best, who knows my rules and understands the club’s values, » explains the JL Bourg coach. At just 24, Kokila is among the youngest players on the roster, but his journey within the club speaks in his favor.

African champion with Angola this summer, the big man has climbed every rung since arriving in Pro B. From simple substitute to technical leader, he now takes on a leadership role outright. « Kevin will have to pass all this on to his teammates, » says Fauthoux, who counts on his new captain to embody the Bresse DNA.

Mokoka, international experience

To support him, Frédéric Fauthoux has chosen Adam Mokoka (1.95m, 27) as vice-captain. The shooting guard/small forward, who just arrived from Cluj-Napoca (Romania), brings his international experience to the Bourg locker room.

« Adam has experience playing in the United States, Europe, France and with the national team. He’s an experienced player who can support Kevin without any problem, » emphasizes the coach. An additional asset: his English proficiency, which will facilitate communication with foreign players on the roster.

This new hierarchy reflects Frédéric Fauthoux’s philosophy, who prioritizes adherence to club values as much as basketball skills. With Kokila and Mokoka, JL Bourg is betting on a complementary duo to approach a new season in Betclic ELITE with ambition. First game this Saturday evening at Limoges.
