A year after leaving the Miami Heat under tumultuous conditions, Jimmy Butler has no regrets. The veteran forward, who created a real drama with the Heat before being traded to the Warriors at the trade deadline, fully stands by his past choices.
« All that noise, all that chaos paid off in a major way, » Butler tells the San Francisco Chronicle. « I’m lucky to be part of this phenomenal organization. » A statement that contrasts with the difficult period experienced in Florida, where management had refused to extend him despite his leadership status.
A clear hierarchy that suits him perfectly
With the Warriors, Butler has found an environment that suits him. Unlike in Miami where he saw himself as the undisputed boss, he now accepts his role as lieutenant to Stephen Curry. « Everyone knows their role. We know Steph is ‘the boss’, and we’re good with that, » he explains.
This well-defined hierarchy seems to free up the former Heat player. « On any given night, I can be the second option. Jonathan Kuminga can be the second. Draymond Green can be the second. But we know who’s number one, and our job is to help him. »
Butler doesn’t hesitate to take a shot at his former franchise: « Here, they only have one goal: to keep hanging more banners up there. There are no hidden agendas. »

Championship goal at 36
Extended this summer for 121 million dollars over two years, more than what Miami could offer him, Butler approaches this new chapter with serenity. « I don’t have an ego. I’m not the number 1 option, and I’m perfectly fine with that, » he insists.
At 36, the veteran has only one obsession: winning that NBA title missing from his resume, after two lost finals in 2020 and 2023. « I’ve never won one, but you can’t call me a loser. I’ve won everywhere I’ve been, » concludes Butler, determined to prove he can still make a difference at the highest level.
