In a game that had the feel of an NBA Finals matchup, the Boston Celtics delivered their best performance of the season with a 119-109 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. A statement win that ended the reigning champions’ 12-game winning streak and puts Boston back among the title favorites.

Trailing by 11 points at the end of the first quarter, the Celtics managed to turn things around thanks to an exceptional Jaylen Brown. The Boston guard scored 31 points, including 24 in the second half, along with 8 rebounds and 8 assists. A performance that gives him his 33rd game with 30 points or more this season, tying Paul Pierce for fifth place in franchise history.

A decisive collective surge

After a difficult start where Boston trailed 31-20, the Celtics gradually found their rhythm. Jayson Tatum, coming off two disappointing performances, regained his touch with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. The « Jays Brothers » had back-up in tonights win, notably Baylor Scheierman who provided a spark off the bench with his three 3-pointers.

Boston’s defense also tightened as the game progressed, limiting the Thunder’s second-chance opportunities and forcing turnovers. The Celtics dominated offensive rebounding with a 19-2 advantage in second-chance points, a determining factor in this victory.

On the Oklahoma City side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a remarkable performance with 33 points and 8 assists. It was his seventh consecutive game with 30 points or more against Boston, the longest streak against the Celtics since LeBron James (9 games between 2004 and 2008). However, the Thunder’s point guard lacked support, particularly from Jalen Williams who scored only 7 points in his return from injury.

This victory against a team with 40 more wins than losses represents a turning point for Boston. The Celtics hadn’t beaten a team of this caliber since March 8, 2017 against the Golden State Warriors. With three weeks until the playoffs, this collective performance sends a clear message: Boston remains a serious contender for the NBA title.
