After 25 games away for violating the NBA anti-drug program, Paul George made a remarkable return last night against the Chicago Bulls. The Philadelphia 76ers forward delivered a complete performance with 28 points on 11/22 shooting, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, all in just 26 minutes of play.

George’s performance was even more impressive as it was accompanied by remarkable 3-point accuracy with 6 makes on 13 attempts. This offensive display contributed to the Sixers’ commanding 157-137 victory, alongside Joel Embiid who scored 35 points including 15 in the first quarter alone.

Public apology and renewed mindset

In his first public statements since his suspension, George had apologized Tuesday to the team, fans and his family for the poor judgment that led to his positive test. « Disappointing people hurts more than anything else, » he stated.

The former Pacers player explained that his choice to take a banned substance was linked to a mental health issue developed due to a knee injury that occurred during the offseason, which had limited his performance this season. « The hardest thing is when your body isn’t where you know it needs to be or where it used to be, » he confided.

The 2025-2026 season has been difficult for George, who is averaging just 16 points in 27 games for the Sixers. The 35-year-old player, who signed a 4-year, $212 million contract in free agency before the 2024-2025 season, had his first year in Philadelphia marked by knee and adductor injuries.

With this strong comeback, the Sixers (39-33) hope to count on their veterans to secure a top-6 spot in the Eastern Conference and qualify directly for the Playoffs, especially since Tyrese Maxey has been out for nine consecutive games due to a right hand finger tendon injury.
