The Promising Return of Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum, who was playing only his second game since his right Achilles tendon injury, contributed 20 points in 27 minutes of play. Although he finished 6/16 from the field, Tatum showed encouraging signs, notably with 6 points scored in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
The Celtics’ offense also benefited from valuable contributions from Payton Pritchard (18 points) and Baylor Scheierman, who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Neemias Queta dominated under the rim with 11 rebounds.
On Cleveland’s side, Donovan Mitchell led the offensive charge with 30 points in his return from injury after a right groin strain suffered on February 24. Evan Mobley was also productive with 24 points and 8 rebounds, while James Harden contributed 19 points and 10 assists.
A Controlled Finish by Boston
The Cavaliers, who were on a seven-game home winning streak, attempted to get back in the game. Cleveland managed to cut the deficit to 94-86 midway through the final quarter thanks to a three-pointer from Jaylon Tyson. However, Pritchard immediately responded with a three-pointer before hitting two consecutive baskets to restore Boston’s double-digit lead.
This victory allows the Celtics to move within three games of Detroit, the Eastern Conference leader, while Cleveland remains fourth despite a record of 22 wins and 9 losses since December 29. The Celtics will continue their three-game road trip in San Antonio on Tuesday, while the Cavaliers will host Philadelphia on Monday.
