European champion with Spain in 2015, the EuroLeague MVP of the 2021-22 season has never won the continent’s top club competition, which is what he aims to achieve with the Roca Team. « I chose this team because I saw it was an ambitious team with big goals, » he smiles. « It’s a team that really wants to create something special. When you see this kind of thing, you want to be part of it. I’ve reached a point in my career, at 34, where I want to win. I really want to win, and that’s why I came. »

After a strong season in Milan, Mirotic gives himself another chance to lift the EuroLeague trophy with the recent finalist. Though ASM fell just short, the Spanish-Montenegrin envisions taking the team to the next level. « I hope to be the piece Monaco was missing to reach its goals. I like pressure. »
« We are two EuroLeague MVPs.
But we’re missing the most important thing: the title »
To overcome this and achieve his lofty goals, Mirotic can count on another high-caliber player: Mike James, who returned a week ago. With his former Pelicans (NBA) teammate, he shares the same desire to finally win EuroLeague after collecting individual awards. « On the team, we are two EuroLeague MVPs. But we’re missing the most important thing: the title. That’s why I came. If we work in the same direction, trust each other and stay humble, I believe we can do something great. »

The « hunt » for trophies for Mirotic, James and the others begins Saturday, September 20, at the LNB SuperCup. While he acknowledges it will still take « a little time » before seeing the full potential of the Monaco squad, the « good chemistry » observed could already wreak havoc.
