The Milwaukee Bucks are going through a deep crisis and Giannis Antetokounmpo is not mincing his words. After the 122-102 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, the Greek superstar pointed out the team’s chemistry problems and the individualistic attitude of some of his teammates.

Blunt Criticism from Antetokounmpo

Asked about the common threads between his team’s recent defeats, Antetokounmpo was particularly direct: « We’re not playing hard. We’re not doing the right things. We’re not playing to win. We’re not playing together. Our chemistry’s not there. Guys are being selfish, they’re trying to look for their own shots instead of looking for the right shot for the team. Guys trying to do it on their own. »

The two-time MVP also highlighted the team’s impatience during difficult moments: « Sometimes I feel like when we’re down 10, 15, 20 points, we’re trying to catch up in one possession, and that’s not going to work. »

This loss to the Thunder, who were missing several important injured players, perfectly illustrates the Bucks’ current difficulties. The Wisconsin team has lost four of its last five games, with three consecutive defeats by at least 18 points.

A Concerning Situation in Milwaukee

With a record of 18 wins and 25 losses, the Bucks currently sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. Their streak of nine consecutive playoff appearances is seriously threatened, especially since the team has never managed to string together more than two wins this season.

The situation is further complicated by Kevin Porter Jr.’s injury, the team’s second-leading scorer (16.8 points per game) and assists leader (7.4 per game). Coach Doc Rivers confirmed that the point guard won’t return « anytime soon » due to an oblique injury.

Antetokounmpo, who only attempted 11 shots against the Thunder, also expressed his frustration regarding his usage: « I’m not the guy who’s going to yell and scream at teammates to demand the ball. I’ve never done that in my career. But I feel like I’ve played with teammates who understood the impact I can have for our team. » The Greek star even mentioned that he was advised to be « the black swan and be more aggressive in demanding the ball », an approach he’s never adopted but might need to consider.
