Nic Claxton mocked by the Knicks after his 2023 statements

The Brooklyn Nets center had claimed to have "never lost against the Knicks" since arriving in the NBA. Since that statement, Brooklyn has a disastrous 0-13 record against their New York rival.

Words can sometimes come back to haunt the person who speaks them, and Nic Claxton is now experiencing this bitter reality. The Brooklyn Nets center sees his old statements about the rivalry with the New York Knicks blow up in his face after another humiliating defeat.

Confidence turned into a nightmare

In 2023, Claxton made particularly bold comments regarding matchups with the Knicks. « Personally, I’ve never lost to the Knicks since I’ve been in the league, » the center declared during a press conference. At the time, his words weren’t completely exaggerated as he had a record of 6 wins and only 1 loss against New York since arriving in the NBA in 2019.

Unfortunately for him, this confident statement proved true for the last time. Since that media appearance, the Nets and Knicks have faced off 13 times, and Brooklyn hasn’t won any of these duels. The record has become catastrophic with a 54-point loss Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden (120-66).

Individual performances in free fall

Individually, Claxton hasn’t shined either during these unfortunate matchups. Over this 13-game losing streak, the 6’8″ center averages disappointing numbers of 8.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, with 47.8% shooting accuracy.

During Wednesday’s recent debacle, Claxton finished with only 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks, perfectly illustrating the current struggles of the Nets. The Brooklyn team is going through a particularly dark period with a record of 12 wins and 30 losses, including only 2 victories in the last 10 games.

This series of setbacks against the Knicks perfectly symbolizes the fall of the Nets, who see their New York rival establish itself as one of the strongest teams in the Eastern Conference. Fans didn’t miss the opportunity to resurface Claxton’s old statements on social media, reminding everyone that on the internet, nothing is ever forgotten.
