Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has reached an unprecedented milestone by becoming a shareholder in Kalshi, a major predictive markets platform offering a wide range of sports trading opportunities. The announcement was made Friday by the two-time MVP himself on social media.

« The internet is full of opinions. I decided it was time to put mine to work, » Antetokounmpo wrote on X. « Today, I’m joining Kalshi as a shareholder. » This statement marks a first in the world of professional basketball, with Kalshi confirming that Antetokounmpo is the first basketball player to join the company as a shareholder.

A Strategic Partnership with Clear Restrictions

The partnership spans live events and marketing, and Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour leaned into the moment. “Giannis is a legend,” he said. “He’s exactly the kind of long-term partner we want to align our growing brand with, and we couldn’t be happier to have him on board.”

There are guardrails. As an active NBA player, Giannis Antetokounmpo is barred from trading on NBA-related markets under Kalshi’s insider-trading policy. The timing is notable, coming amid a week in which Antetokounmpo’s name hovered in trade chatter ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

Adding a layer of irony, Kalshi had posted repeatedly on X in the days leading up to the deadline, spotlighting its Antetokounmpo trade markets and the shifting odds tied to potential suitors. In the end, the Milwaukee Bucks stood pat, keeping their star, who has been sidelined since January 23 with a right calf injury.

« I love the Kalshi markets and I’ve been checking them often recently, » Antetokounmpo said in the company’s press release. « I like to win. It’s clear to me that Kalshi is going to be a winner and I’m excited to get involved. »

This partnership raises important regulatory questions, particularly regarding the NBA’s position, which had asked the CFTC in May 2025 to provide a regulatory framework for individual sporting events after Kalshi began offering money lines on league games.
