Axelle Merceron (1.89m, 22 years old) continues her rise in Spain. For her first experience outside France, the former Angers player has established herself as one of the great revelations of the Liga Femenina Endesa. This Sunday, she set the season’s efficiency rating record with 45 units in Gran Canaria’s victory against Ferrol (93-81).
The match against Ferrol will remain a reference. Merceron compiled 32 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal, shooting 13/14 on 2-pointers and 6/6 from the free throw line. Playing 40 minutes on the court, she also drew 6 fouls. This stat line allowed her to reach 45 efficiency rating, the best performance of the season in the Spanish championship.
Until now, only Sika Koné had reached 40 efficiency rating this season, and you had to go back to January 18th to find better, with the 47 units achieved by Mariam Coulibaly.
Coming through the Poitiers youth academy then the Bourges training center, Axelle Merceron is a wing player who was U20 European champion before joining Angers. In Ligue Féminine, she averaged 2.8 points and 2.6 rebounds last season, although her contribution in the women’s EuroCup was more notable (9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds).
Since her arrival in Liga Femenina Endesa, everything has changed. After eight rounds, she dominates the rankings:
She had already been named MVP of round 3. Her new stellar performance confirms her place among the championship’s top statistical performers, even though her team has only won one game this season, that famous match against Ferrol, to the point of parting ways with its two other French players.

This success, the first after seven defeats, allows Gran Canaria to come up for air. The Canary Islands team remains in last place, but draws level with Estudiantes and moves closer to Estepona and Leganés (2-6), the teams currently occupying the relegation playoff positions.
In this difficult context, the level displayed by Merceron is one of the very few bright spots for the club in this early season.
