FC Barcelona loses key player for six months

FC Barcelona will have to do without their Spanish point guard Juan Nunez (1.92m, 21 years old) for a large part of the 2025-2026 season.
Revision arthroscopy necessary after complications
According to the Catalan club’s official statement: « Juan Núñez underwent revision arthroscopy on his right knee on Tuesday. A meniscal cyst was removed, and the meniscal sutures from the first arthroscopy (performed on March 11) were reinforced. The estimated recovery time is approximately six months. »
This new intervention follows an inflammatory reaction developed by the player after returning to team training sessions.
A setback for his progression at Barcelona
This injury prevents Nunez from starting his second season at Barça in full physical form. During his first Catalan year, he played approximately 50 games: 25 in EuroLeague (averaging 5 points and 7.4 in evaluation) and 20 in Liga Endesa (5.1 points and 7.6 in evaluation), plus appearances in Copa del Rey, Supercopa and Catalan League.
After working hard all summer, the Barcelona point guard had started preseason with the team and was one of the standout players during the preparation match in Encamp against Paris Basketball. He now faces the challenge of starting over with a long recovery process.
As a reminder, in the 2024 NBA Draft, Nunez was selected by the Indiana Pacers at 36th pick before being immediately traded to the San Antonio Spurs, who still hold his NBA rights.
