The Sacramento Kings quickly reacted in the free agent market by securing the services of Drew Eubanks. The 6’9″ center was just released by the Los Angeles Clippers and immediately found a new landing spot in Northern California.

An experienced addition to compensate for Valanciunas’ departure

After trading Jonas Valanciunas to Denver for Dario Saric earlier in the day, the Kings needed a reliable solution to support Domantas Sabonis in the paint. Drew Eubanks, 28, brings seven years of NBA experience to fill this void.

Last season, split between the Utah Jazz and the Clippers, Eubanks averaged 4.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game across 61 games. His remarkable 59.3% shooting accuracy demonstrates his efficiency near the rim.

Shams Charania was the first to break the news for ESPN: « The Los Angeles Clippers are waiving center Drew Eubanks and Eubanks plans to sign with the Sacramento Kings on a one-year deal after he clears waivers, sources tell ESPN. Additional frontcourt depth for the Kings. »

A flexibility strategy for Scott Perry

This recruitment aligns with new general manager Scott Perry’s philosophy, prioritizing financial flexibility while exploring options to rebuild the core inherited from Monte McNair. Eubanks’ contract, valued at $4.75 million, expires at the end of the 2025-2026 season.

While Eubanks can’t match Valanciunas‘ production, he can handle Sabonis‘ 15 minutes of rest. Sacramento also has rookie Maxime Raynaud, 22, and Isaac Jones on a two-way contract for his second season. This rotation should suffice under normal circumstances, though a Sabonis injury could expose the limitations of this frontcourt depth.
