Experienced veteran to strengthen rotation
After starting his professional career in Europe following his undrafted exit from Radford University in 2015, Green gradually established himself as a reliable rotation player in the NBA. Since 2019, he has played 263 regular season games with the Celtics, Bulls, Pelicans, and Cavaliers, averaging 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16.8 minutes per game.
Green’s 2024-2025 season was split between two franchises. He first played with the New Orleans Pelicans, an injury-plagued team, where he appeared in 50 games including 18 as a starter. After being released, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers, leaders of the Eastern Conference. Overall, he posted statistics of 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game across 68 matches, shooting 42.9% from the field, 32.6% from three-point range, and 72.4% from the free-throw line.
Strategic signing for Detroit
Known primarily for his defensive qualities and versatility, Green brings valuable experience to the Pistons. Charania’s tweet doesn’t specify the financial details of the agreement, but it’s likely to be a minimum salary contract.
With only 13 players currently on standard contracts, the Pistons offer Green a clear opportunity to secure a spot in the 15-man roster for the regular season. This signing aligns with Detroit’s rebuilding strategy, relying on veterans like Green to mentor young talent and add depth to their rotation.
