The French U20 women’s team had a EuroBasket 2025 to forget. After losing twice in the competition (round of 16 and first classification game), they had to play for 13th place to stay in Division A. Against Portugal, they won 72-65, securing their spot at the last moment. Meanwhile, Spain crushed Lithuania in the final (102-50) to claim their 10th title in this category and dethrone France, the defending champions.

Spain on another level, U18 Gina Garcia named MVP

In the final, Spain and Lithuania were tied after 10 minutes (19-19). But the Iberians shifted to higher gear with a monumental second quarter (37 points scored) to fly towards a record victory (102-50). Carla Viegas (1.76m, 19 years) finished as top scorer (17 points) ahead of Marina Mata, who was perfect from the field (14 points without missing, 9 rebounds, 5 assists). The tournament MVP award went to point guard Gina Garcia (averaging 11.2 points and 4.9 assists). Born in 2007 and still U18, she had also won the U18 Euro in July.

After winning both U18 and U20 Euros, taking bronze at the U19 World Cup, and silver at EuroBasket A, Spanish women’s teams have truly dominated the French this summer. Only the U16 Euro remains for the girls. In men’s competitions, Spain also won the U18 Euro. However, they didn’t qualify for the U19 World Cup and only finished eighth at the U20 EuroBasket.

Italy completes the podium

Italy won the bronze medal, their third in four editions, by defeating Sweden (84-51) in the third-place game. The tournament’s all-star team also includes Lithuanian Daniele Paunksnyte (who scored a record 43 points in a pool game), Italian Cristina Osazuwa, Swedish Lourdes Da Silva Costa, and Latvian Raina Tomasicka.

France narrowly maintains Division A status

For France, the competition turned into a nightmare, finishing 13th, just ahead of Portugal, Netherlands, and Czech Republic who will play in Division B in 2026. The French team however avoided relegation thanks to their victory against Portugal (72-65) in their final game.
