Denver overcomes 20-point deficit to beat the Spurs

The Denver Nuggets pulled off a stunning comeback, erasing a 20-point deficit to win 136-131 against the San Antonio Spurs. This victory ended the Texans’ five-game winning streak, as they were without their star Victor Wembanyama, who was sidelined due to right ankle soreness.
Nikola Jokic delivered a masterful performance with 31 points, 20 rebounds and 12 assists for his 26th triple-double of the season. Alongside him, Jamal Murray was scorching hot with 39 points, including 30 scored in the second half in a remarkable offensive display.

The Spurs dominate before collapsing
San Antonio had taken control convincingly, leading 69-53 at halftime thanks to efficient team play. Stephon Castle stood out with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his third career triple-double, while De’Aaron Fox added 27 points. Harrison Barnes, returning after an extended absence, contributed 20 points.
The absence of Wembanyama, who must participate in 13 of the final 16 games to be eligible for end-of-season awards, ultimately hurt them defensively. The Spurs have been strong without their French center with a record of 10 wins and 5 losses this season.
The turning point came in the fourth quarter. Trailing 132-129, the Spurs had a chance to tie through Castle, but his 3-pointer missed with 20 seconds remaining. Murray then sealed the victory with four consecutive free throws.
Denver dominated the fourth quarter 42-25, with valuable contributions from Spencer Jones (19 points), Cameron Johnson (15 points) and Christian Braun (11 points). This spectacular comeback marks the Spurs’ first loss this season after leading by 20 points, having previously posted a perfect 22-0 record in such situations.
This crucial victory keeps the Nuggets in fifth place in the West in a very tight playoff race, where only two wins separate teams ranked between third and seventh place. The Spurs, despite this loss, maintain their second-place standing with an impressive record of 24 wins and 8 losses since the start of 2026.
