Chris Paul is nearing the end of his NBA journey after being released by the Toronto Raptors on Friday. The legendary point guard was acquired a week earlier as part of a three-team trade involving the Los Angeles Clippers and the Brooklyn Nets.

The Raptors officially released Paul, who can sign with a new team if he clears waivers. This decision was expected, as Toronto primarily acquired the veteran for financial reasons before letting him go.

Despite speculation, CP3 announces retirement

With confirmation that this season will be his last in the NBA, the options for Chris Paul remained limited but interesting. According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks were among the potential destinations for the 39-year-old point guard.

The Milwaukee Bucks also represented an appealing possibility. If the Wisconsin franchise had kept Giannis Antetokounmpo active until the end of the season, it would have reunited the veteran with the Greek superstar and coach Doc Rivers, who knows Paul well from coaching him with the Clippers.

The future Hall of Famer ultimately won’t go anywhere.

Hours after his release was made official, Chris Paul announced on social media that he is ending his professional career. After 21 NBA seasons, 12 All-Star Game selections and a reputation forged as one of the greatest point guards in modern history, CP3 is closing the chapter.

While he won’t hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy, his imprint on the league remains immense: elite passer, methodical orchestrator, relentless defender despite his size, he embodied excellence at the point guard position for two decades.

At 39 years old, Chris Paul leaves the court with over 20,000 points and 11,000 assists in his career, leaving behind the image of a fierce competitor and respected leader.

Small in stature, but an immense player by impact.
