Domantas Sabonis shows confidence in the new direction taken by the Sacramento Kings under General Manager Scott Perry’s leadership. During his basketball camp in Roseville, the Lithuanian center appeared enthusiastic about the recent changes made within the California franchise.

« I think Scott has done a very good job so far and is trying to turn things around like everyone else, » said Sabonis. The former Indiana player also suggests that the roster isn’t done evolving: « A lot has changed and there will probably be many more changes, so we’ll wait and see what happens before training camp. »

Dennis Schröder, the recruit who excites Sabonis

The arrival of Dennis Schröder from the Detroit Pistons is one of Sabonis’ major satisfactions this offseason. After trading De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio in an exchange that brought Zach LaVine and Sidy Cissoko to Sacramento, the Kings needed an experienced point guard.

« Now we have a starting-caliber point guard. Dennis is very talented, » rejoiced the 6’11 » center. This acquisition is part of a broader roster overhaul, which also saw the arrival of Dario Saric from Denver and the selection of rookies Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the Draft.

Sabonis has taken the initiative by organizing training sessions with young players, notably hosting Isaac Jones and Maxime Raynaud in Napa Valley to prepare for the upcoming season.

Regarding Doug Christie’s retention as head coach, Sabonis remains confident: « I know Doug is working hard on the new system, on our way of playing. He’ll teach it to us during training camp. » Their special relationship, forged over three summers of intensive training, suggests a fruitful collaboration.

While the departure of his compatriot Jonas Valanciunas to Denver saddens him, Sabonis understands this decision: « It’s sad to see a friend leave, but at the same time, we understand. I’m happy for him; he’s now with the Nuggets, the best team in the West, and all he wants is to win. »
