AS Monaco Basket: Prince Albert discusses potential investment group, case remains delicate

The situation around AS Monaco Basket remains delicately balanced. While local authorities have signaled a willingness to step in and preserve the season, the recovery plan is still unfinished—and far from guaranteed.

Investment group of sponsor companies mentioned

Interviewed by L’Équipe, Prince Albert II of Monaco confirmed that discussions are underway to try to stabilize the club in the short term.

« There are a few Monaco-based companies, which are sponsors, and they say that perhaps we could form an investment group to see how we can locally help the club, but it hasn’t gone beyond that, » explained the sovereign.

A statement that confirms the Principality does not intend to take over the club long-term, but to play a transitional role in a bridge or interim ownership capacity.

Priority : Finish the season

Prince Albert II reiterated the message: the priority is sporting continuity. « It’s a situation that concerns me greatly, but we will do everything to make sure the players are treated properly and, above all, that we can finish the season, » he said—even as December and January salaries remain unpaid.

That stance fits with the already floated idea of a temporary « bridge, » buying time while the club waits for the potential arrival of a buyer later this spring.

A case that could quickly stall

While the Monaco Court of First Instance pushed the review of a potential insolvency ruling back to March 6, L’Équipe reports that the case could already hit turbulence as early as this week.

The size and complexity of the liabilities—estimated at close to €15 million—along with the need to legally secure every step, continue to slow the process. « Reflections are underway. All of this requires taking the time to make the right choices, » Prince Albert II acknowledged.

Between urgency and uncertainty

With players still waiting for concrete guarantees and the sporting pressure as intense as ever, AS Monaco Basket continues to walk a tightrope. Short-term survival appears within reach, but the slightest institutional friction could slow—or even derail—a recovery plan that remains far from fully secured.
