Anthony Davis out for remainder of 2025-2026 season with Washington

Anthony Davis will not play for the Washington Wizards this season. According to Chris Haynes of Prime, the All-Star big man will miss the remainder of the 2025–26 campaign to fully recover from hand and groin injuries, with the focus now squarely on being ready for 2026–27.
The news is disappointing but hardly unexpected. Davis hasn’t appeared since January 8, when he was still with the Dallas Mavericks and exited late in a loss to the Utah Jazz. He finished that night with 21 points and 11 rebounds in 35 minutes before the injury ended his season.

A long-term rebuilding strategy for Washington
Davis’ absence aligns with the Washington Wizards’ long-term reset. Sitting at 14–36, fifth-worst in the league, Washington is intent on protecting its top-eight pick, which would otherwise convey to Memphis Grizzlies or the New York Knicks.
He joins Trae Young on the sideline. Acquired from Atlanta Hawks, Young has been out since December 27 with knee and quadriceps issues and is expected to be re-evaluated after the All-Star break.
When available this season, Anthony Davis still played at an All-Star level—20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks across 20 games. At 32, the 6-foot-8 big man remains a game-changer when healthy.
In a recent interview with The Athletic, Davis spoke positively about his early days in Washington. “The visit went very well,” he said. “They welcomed me with open arms. I spent time with Ted and Zach. It’s totally different from what they make it seem.”
The plan is straightforward: bring Davis and Young back together next season, alongside a young core featuring Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson and a likely high 2025 draft pick. It’s a patient bet—one that hinges on health, but carries real upside if both stars return near full strength.
