Stephon Castle delivered an extraordinary performance Saturday night at Frost Bank Center, setting a new NBA record by becoming the youngest player in history to record a triple-double with at least 40 points. At 21 years and 98 days old, he dethroned Oscar Robertson (22 years and 33 days) while leading the San Antonio Spurs to a dominant 138-125 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

The sophomore guard delivered a monster line—40 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in just 31:51—while shooting a blistering 15-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-5 from deep. With the performance, Stephon Castle joined David Robinson as the only players in San Antonio Spurs history to record a 40-point triple-double.

An Exceptional Performance that Propels San Antonio

« It’s the best game of his career so far, » Victor Wembanyama declared after the game. « It’s one of the best stat lines I’ve seen with my own eyes. » Castle started the game perfectly, making his first ten shots before missing his first attempt with 8 minutes and 51 seconds left in the third quarter.

Coach Mitch Johnson highlighted his player’s intelligent approach:

« He started with two or three possessions creating advantages for his teammates. When you have that type of approach, it’s incredible how you can end up being the beneficiary of the advantage you created for your teammate. »

The Spurs (36-16) won their fourth consecutive game and ninth in twelve games, consolidating their second place in the Western Conference. The Texas team set a season record with 81 points scored in the first half and dominated in the paint with 74 points scored near the basket.

For the Dallas Mavericks, Cooper Flagg finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Klay Thompson chipped in 19 points off the bench. Dallas (19–33) dropped its seventh straight and remains outside the West’s top 10. Newly acquired Marvin Bagley III—part of the deal involving Anthony Davis—made an encouraging debut with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Castle’s historic night further signals the rise of another cornerstone next to Victor Wembanyama, sharpening the San Antonio Spurs’ long-term outlook. San Antonio now heads out on its annual Rodeo Road Trip, starting Tuesday in Los Angeles against the Los Angeles Lakers.
