AS Monaco continues to defy expectations with their depleted roster. Playing with the same short rotation of nine players for several matches, the Roca Team keeps stringing together victories in what has become a season of remarkable resilience.
A « last dance » mentality driving success
Without Mike James and Nikola Mirotic, who missed the reunion with their former team, Monaco’s remaining core stepped up once again. The team’s mindset has been perfectly encapsulated by their recent statements. « This season is surely our ‘last dance’ all together, so we want to do something special together. We are dogs on the court, » expressed Matthew Strazel (14 points, 5 assists) after their previous victory against Anadolu Efes.
Nemanja Nedovic (5 points) reinforced this sentiment to local media: « The last 6 games will be like finals for us, and we’re going to treat them as such. » This mentality was on full display at Gaston-Médecin, where Monaco secured another crucial victory in their playoff race, maintaining their 7th place position.
Spectacular fourth-quarter turnaround
The victory looked unlikely from the start. Milano came out firing, establishing an early 17-5 lead against a struggling Monaco defense. Élie Okobo kept his team afloat in the first half with spectacular plays – bank shots, and-ones, and assists for dunks by teammates Daniel Theis (15 points, 6 rebounds) and Juhann Begarin (6 points).
At halftime, Okobo addressed his team’s inconsistencies on EuroLeague TV: « We are very irregular, especially on defense. Sometimes we are aggressive, we steal balls, we get rebounds… And sometimes we give them second chances, and we’re not present enough on help defense. We have to do better. 52 points allowed is too much. »
The message took an entire quarter to sink in. Monaco continued struggling through the third quarter (lost 18-25), trailing by 12 points (63-75) entering the final period. Then came the transformation – a spectacular 27-10 fourth quarter that secured their third consecutive EuroLeague victory.
Alpha Diallo, who had struggled with his shooting throughout the game, delivered crucial 3-points when it mattered most, finishing with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Okobo orchestrated the comeback brilliantly, recording the first double-double of his European career with 16 points and 13 assists. The defense locked down completely, allowing just 12 points in the final quarter compared to 23-25 in each of the first three periods.

Coach Manuchar Markoishvili remains undefeated in EuroLeague play, successfully managing the same group of players who are logging heavy minutes across both European competition and domestic league play. With Mike James and Nikola Mirotic expected to return in the coming days, Monaco’s playoff horizon appears brighter than many anticipated.
