A’ja Wilson wrote another chapter in her legend this Wednesday. The four-time MVP delivered victory to the Las Vegas Aces in Game 3 of the 2025 WNBA Finals, winning 90-88 against the Phoenix Mercury with a last-second shot. The Aces now lead 3-0 in this series and are dangerously close to another title.
Coming out of a timeout, and despite facing a double team from Mercury, A’ja Wilson rose up from mid-range in front of Alyssa Thomas to score the game-winner with 0.3 seconds left. Her shot rolled around the rim before dropping in, ending all hopes for Phoenix in this crucial game.

This perfect ending caps another outstanding performance from the American center, who finished Game 3 with 34 points on 11/20 shooting, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks. It’s her fourth 30+ point game in this playoff run, something no one had ever achieved before in WNBA history.
The outcome seems cruel for Phoenix, who had erased a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Coach Nate Tibbetts’ players had managed to tie the game with one minute remaining, largely thanks to DeWanna Bonner (25 points, 10 rebounds) and Satou Sabally (24 points, 5 rebounds), the latter unfortunately having to leave her teammates late in the game due to a head injury. Monique Akoa-Makani finished with 6 points on 2/7 shooting (2/3 from three-point range), 1 rebound and 1 assist but also 5 fouls in 25 minutes (with a +/- of +6).
For the Aces, support from Jackie Young (21 points) and Jewell Loyd (16 points) off the bench made the difference. Las Vegas had actually set a new record by making nine three-pointers in the first half, something never seen before in WNBA Finals history.
Phoenix will now try to save face at home in Game 4, but things look dire for Alyssa Thomas’ team (14 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists). The Aces will have their first championship point on Friday to secure their third title in four years, led by A’ja Wilson who continues to climb the ranks among the greatest players in WNBA history.
