Without LeBron and Doncic, Austin Reaves delivers historic performance to revive Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers needed a hero against the Sacramento Kings. Without Luka Doncic (finger sprain, leg contusion) or LeBron James (sciatica), the Californians could count on Austin Reaves. Indeed, he delivered an epic performance: 51 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists in the 127-120 victory.
Before the game, Reaves exchanged messages with Doncic. The latter challenged him: « I need 60 points tonight« . Reaves just laughed in response. In the end, he wasn’t too far off.
An offensive festival powered by free throws
In 39 minutes, Reaves put up 51 points on 12/22 shooting, 6/10 from three-point range, and an impressive 21/22 from the free-throw line. He shattered his previous career-high of 44 points.
« I’m not going to lie, when I went to the line, I told myself I better not miss! » joked the guard, referencing Doncic, who was teased for missing a free throw against the Wolves.
Coach JJ Redick praised his player’s versatility: « He was fantastic. He was all over the court and scored at an incredible level. Reaves lives in the moment and always delivers.

Doncic’s recognition and the rise of a leader
From the bench, Doncic didn’t forget to congratulate his teammate. On Instagram, he posted a story with the word « GOAT », a playful but sincere nod.
This performance confirms Reaves’ exceptional start to the season. He’s now averaging 34 points, with nearly 10 assists and 8 rebounds. « I’m playing the sport I love. My teammates and staff let me be myself, and that’s why I can express myself this way, » he shares.
While waiting for James and Doncic to return, Austin Reaves will need to maintain this momentum. The goal: keep the Lakers in the race for the top spots in the Western Conference.
