Victor Wembanyama (31 points) leads Spurs to third straight victory against the Nets
The San Antonio Spurs secured their third victory in as many games this season by winning 118-107 against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night at home. This performance marks a positive turning point for the Texas franchise, which hadn’t had such a strong start in six years.
Victor Wembanyama was once again his team’s spearhead with another impressive stat line, despite lower shooting efficiency: 31 points on 9/21 shooting, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 6 blocks. The French giant had a difficult start, ending the first quarter with only 3 points from free throws, struggling against the Nets’ aggressive defense. However, he elevated his game before halftime, going to the locker room with 18 points, including a final sequence with a double block followed by a deep transition 3-pointer.

Domination Turns to Worry
After leading by 26 points at halftime (69-48), the Spurs experienced a scare in the second half. Mitch Johnson’s team saw their lead gradually melt away against a brilliant Cam Thomas, who finished with 40 points. The Nets, who were shooting only 19% from 3-point range in the first half, improved to 50% in the second half to come within one possession early in the fourth quarter.
Rookie Dylan Harper particularly stood out off the bench with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. Keldon Johnson also contributed with 19 points, helping the Spurs have six players scoring more than 7 points by halftime.
