Juhann Begarin (6’5″, 23 years old) watched the final moments of the AS Monaco vs JDA Dijon game descend into chaos. With one minute left and Monaco’s victory already secured (108-95), the French forward lost his temper during a duel with Quentin Losser, triggering a spectacular and alarming brawl.

A Tense End to the Game

The context was clear: Monaco was firmly in control at Gaston Médecin Arena. But under the basket, tension suddenly flared between Juhann Begarin and Quentin Losser. After a physical rebounding battle, the Roca Team player threw a punch at the Dijon big man.

His face bleeding, Quentin Losser attempted to retaliate before being held back by his teammates. The quick intervention of several players, including Kevarrius Hayes, prevented the situation from escalating further.

The referees immediately issued disqualifying fouls to both players, ending their night early.

Laurent Legname Defends Quentin Losser

After the game, JDA Dijon head coach Laurent Legname stood by his player, as reported by Le Bien Public.

« These are things you don’t want to see on a court, but when you take a right hook to the head, there’s obviously a problem… […] I protect my players and I stand behind Quentin because his reaction was legitimate. A player is a human being. […] He shouldn’t have to take a punch like that on a court. »

The Var-based coach emphasized the origin of the incident, pointing to what he viewed as an excessive initial act by Begarin that prompted the reaction.

Monaco Apologizes After the Incident

On Monaco’s side, head coach Sergii Gladyr moved to calm things down and issued a public apology.

« This is not the image of Monaco we want to show. I want to apologize, on behalf of the club, to the fans […] We will make sure this does not happen again. »

He also acknowledged the tense nature of the game, marked by high intensity and provocations, while stopping short of excusing the incident.

« They press a lot. They came back and it was hard to stay calm. Especially in that moment when someone pushes you in the face with provocation. It was a box-out situation but it’s hard to stay calm under those conditions. What happened, happened. »

Heavy Sanctions on the Way?

This incident could have serious consequences, particularly for Monaco. Already without several key players, the Principality club was operating with a rotation of just seven professional players.

A suspension for Juhann Begarin would be an additional blow, especially given the team’s limited pool of JFL-eligible players. Quentin Losser, who was also sanctioned during the game, could likewise face further disciplinary action.

In any case, this brawl casts a shadow over what was an important win for the Roca Team and reignites the debate around managing tensions in the closing minutes of games.
