The NBA summer continues to deliver important news about league stars. Between growing concerns about Joel Embiid’s health, Russell Westbrook’s negotiations and Kevin Love’s expected moves, several hot topics are animating this summer period.
Major concerns regarding Joel Embiid’s knee
The situation with Joel Embiid is becoming increasingly concerning for the Philadelphia 76ers. According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, there are « real concerns » about the long-term health of the Sixers star’s knee. The 31-year-old center, who only played 19 games last season due to a meniscus tear, could see his career seriously compromised by these recurring problems.

Eastern Conference executives have reportedly shared that Philadelphia is sending « mixed signals » regarding Embiid’s knee condition. An Eastern Conference executive told ClutchPoints: « Front office people are nervous. There are behind-the-scenes discussions suggesting the 76ers aren’t fully confident in his recovery timeline. »
This situation comes at a critical time for the Sixers, who have heavily invested in their franchise player with a $213 million four-year contract extension in 2024.
Russell Westbrook won’t return to Oklahoma City
Despite Thunder fans’ calls, Russell Westbrook is not expected to return to Oklahoma City. According to Sports Illustrated, a reunion between the former MVP and his former team is considered « unlikely. » The Thunder, current NBA champions, has a complete roster and Westbrook wouldn’t fit the profile sought by the current team.

The Sacramento Kings remain the most likely destination for the 36-year-old point guard. The California team has been maintaining discussions with Westbrook for several weeks, despite an already well-stocked backcourt with Dennis Schröder, Devin Carter, Keon Ellis and Malik Monk. The Kings dream of a scenario including acquiring Jonathan Kuminga and signing Westbrook to complete their offseason.
Other franchises like the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns are also monitoring the situation of the former Lakers, Clippers and Nuggets player.
Kevin Love seeking exit from Jazz
Kevin Love is actively exploring ways to leave the Utah Jazz, according to Marc Stein. The 36-year-old veteran, who arrived in Salt Lake City as part of the three-team trade involving Norman Powell, doesn’t want to play for a rebuilding team.

« Kevin Love is actively exploring potential pathways out of Utah after being traded by Miami to the Jazz in the Norman Powell three-team trade, » Stein reported. An amicable separation or contract buyout appear to be the preferred options.
The five-time All-Star, 2016 NBA champion with Cleveland, is reportedly seeking a « glamour market » to potentially end his career, with the Knicks, Lakers or Clippers as possible destinations. A return to the Cavaliers alongside LeBron James remains possible for the player who only played 23 games last season with Miami.
