The Brooklyn Nets suffered another crushing defeat at the Barclays Center, falling 126-110 to the San Antonio Spurs. Despite the presence of Victor Wembanyama, it was Julian Champagnie, a Brooklyn native, who led the charge with 26 points to give the Spurs their eleventh consecutive victory.
Michael Porter Jr. keeps Brooklyn in the game
The Nets forward delivered his best performance of February with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Michael Porter Jr.. particularly shined in the third quarter, scoring 17 points in the period, including three consecutive 3-pointers after maneuvering around Wembanyama for three quick layups. Despite a modest shooting percentage (9/22 from the field), the former Nuggets player kept Brooklyn in contention.
« I think we fought in that third quarter, we cut the lead to under ten points, we made a game of it, » said coach Jordi Fernández. « We did a lot of things better, fighting for long rebounds, rising to the challenge, but we couldn’t finish it. You have to play very well against a team like that, one of the best in the NBA. »
The rookies continue their development
The Nets’ young players showed encouraging signs despite the loss. Nolan Traoré benefited from his coach’s confidence, with over 29 minutes of playing time and a spot in the Nets’ starting lineup. Danny Wolf added 14 points with 5 rebounds. Egor Demin had a special evening with a personal record of 9 assists for only one turnover, despite defensive struggles early in the game.

Day’Ron Sharpe also contributed with his fifth double-double of the season (14 points, 11 rebounds), allowing the Nets to score 54 points in the paint, their best total since February 9.
The Spurs demonstrated why they hold second place in the Western Conference, posting an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 36:9 and shooting 39.5% from 3-point range. After being down by six points, the Nets found themselves trailing by 26 units in the blink of an eye, unable to contain San Antonio’s fluid offense.
