Virtus Bologna Falls to Partizan Belgrade at Home in EuroLeague Setback

Bonga’s career night helps lead Partizan past Virtus
Early Struggles Define the Contest
The night started as a nightmare for Virtus Bologna, who found themselves trailing 0-8 early as Jekiri, Osetkowski, and Carlik Jones put the visitors ahead. The Italians managed to get on the scoreboard through Edwards, but five consecutive points from Bonga extended Partizan‘s lead to 2-13, setting the tone for what would be a long evening of playing catch-up.
Vildoza and Niang attempted to spark a Virtus response, but Carlik Jones continued to punish the home side, pushing the advantage to 9-18. A 3-pointer from Carsen Edwards brought the Vu Nere within five points, only for Bonga and Milton to respond with triples of their own. Despite the difficult start, Virtus managed to close the gap by the end of the first quarter, trailing 25-29 after 10 minutes.
The second quarter saw Virtus remain within striking distance thanks to strong performances from Momo Diouf, who was effective both in the paint and from the free-throw line. Nick Calathes and Shake Milton continued Partizan’s excellent shooting from beyond the arc, but Edwards answered with a transition 3-pointer. Sterling Brown‘s late triple and Diarra‘s basket in the paint allowed Partizan Belgrade to take a 52-48 lead into halftime.
One of the best in the business.

Fourth Quarter Collapse Seals Virtus Fate
The final period opened with Fernando‘s dunk followed by Morgan‘s 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one. However, Fernando‘s early exit due to foul trouble, along with technical fouls assessed to both Fernando and coach Penarroya, shifted momentum back to the visitors. Milton‘s scoring put Partizan ahead by two, while Pokusevski‘s steal and fast-break conversion extended the lead to four.
Virtus experimented with different lineups, including giving minutes to young Baiocchi alongside the solid contribution from Ferrari throughout the match. Osetkowski‘s 3-pointer pushed the lead to five, but Edwards responded from the free-throw line. In the closing stages, Jones dominated in the post with multiple scores, building Partizan’s advantage to 10 points. Ferrari managed a late triple to make it a seven-point game, but Bonga sealed the victory from the free-throw line with 90 seconds remaining.
The defeat marked another setback for Virtus Bologna, who were already missing Daniel Hackett and Alessandro Pajola, and lost Luca Vildoza during the game due to a left thigh flexor problem. Carlik Jones led all scorers with 19 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds, while Isaac Bonga recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. For the home side, Carsen Edwards matched Jones with 19 points despite shooting 6-of-19 from the field, and Matt Morgan contributed 18 points in the losing effort.
