Two months after Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly joined a group of minority shareholders in December, ASVEL could be set for another major financial boost. According to reports, an investment fund is considering taking a stake in the Lyon-based club, with an estimated injection of around 30 million euros being discussed, though this figure has not been confirmed.

The timing appears strategic, with the primary objective being to position ASVEL for the future NBA Europe project. While the competition has not been officially confirmed for the 2027-2028 season, despite some announcements made at the end of 2025, the club is clearly preparing for this potential opportunity.

Dual strategy for financial stability and growth

The rationale behind this potential capital injection serves two purposes: securing the club’s financial future and benefiting from medium-term revaluation linked to NBA Europe integration. Tony Parker, who has been heavily involved in discussions between the NBA, EuroLeague, and FIBA in recent months, has never hidden his ambition to see ASVEL join this new competition.

« We’re all investing with NBA Europe in mind, » Parker explained to L’Équipe last June, underlining the club’s strategic direction.

Given ASVEL‘s deteriorated and structurally deficit financial situation, a massive capital injection would help stabilize the accounts and anticipate a change of scale. The club has accumulated an estimated deficit of around 12 million euros over several seasons, with their salary mass being monitored by the DNCCG for 2025-2026.

Beyond the financial aspect, this potential investment would also enable the construction of a reinforced sporting structure. The idea would be to build an expanded staff, almost mirroring NBA organizations. To support Tony Parker, who is announced in a head coach role, Vincent Collet’s name is circulating for an associate coach position, though nothing has been finalized yet.

Other profiles being discussed include Dounia Issa from JA Vichy, Bryan George (assistant with the French national team, with NBA experience and currently in the G-League), and Elise Prod’homme (JDA Dijon prospects and French U18 men’s national team). Additionally, general manager Michel Veyronnet could be supported by two assistant GMs, including former club legend Charles Kahudi.

While this ambitious casting remains to be confirmed, with no official announcements made and discussions reportedly still ongoing, it represents the scale of ASVEL‘s ambitions. The club’s strategic future appears to be drawn around the NBA Europe project, making the confirmation of this competition’s launch by 2027-2028 crucial for their long-term planning.
