TV Rights: TF1 secures French national team matches for upcoming European Championships and World Cups

It’s a major turning point for fans of the French national basketball team: matches of both men’s and women’s teams during upcoming major international competitions will be broadcast on TF1 Group channels, reports L’Équipe. FIBA officially confirmed the news shortly after. This represents a significant change for viewers who were used to other channels during previous editions.

French Teams on TF1 starting with Euro 2025
The contract between TF1 and FIBA will cover major international competitions until 2029, beginning with the Women’s Euro 2025 (June 18-29) in Greece. The French women’s team, Olympic finalists in Paris 2024, will start their campaign against Turkey in Piraeus. The Men’s EuroBasket will follow in late summer (August 27 to September 14), with their opening game against Belgium in Katowice, Poland.
TF1 will broadcast matches on its traditional channels (TF1, TMC, TFX) and via its TF1+ platform. This partnership represents a major spotlight for French basketball, which aims to capitalize on the momentum from the Paris Olympics and the enthusiasm around its national teams.

Agreement covers World Cups and European Championships until 2029
Beyond Euro 2025, the agreement also includes the 2026 Women’s World Cup in Berlin, the 2027 Men’s World Cup in Doha, and the 2027 and 2029 EuroBasket editions, up to EuroBasket 2029 co-hosted by Estonia, Greece, Spain and Slovenia.
This partnership was negotiated by FIBA Media, a joint venture between FIBA and DAZN, but the British platform is only a commercial actor in this deal. It will not directly broadcast the matches. The information we shared on Monday suggesting DAZN had control over the rights in France was therefore incorrect.
David Cozette to commentate?
« There is unprecedented interest around the French national teams following their performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics, » said Frank Leenders, General Manager of FIBA Media and Marketing Services. « This partnership will further enhance their visibility. »
TF1 Group shares the same satisfaction: « With the power of our linear channels and our TF1+ platform, we are convinced we can take basketball to the next level in France, » explained Julien Millereux, the group’s Sports Director. Regarding commentators and consultants, one piece of information has leaked: David Cozette, the famous French basketball commentator, tweeted a rather unambiguous message: « I’m back. »
