Hugo Benitez turns the page on JL Bourg. After nine years with the Ain club, the French-Catalan point guard is ready for his first experience abroad by joining Manresa, who finished 10th in the last Liga Endesa season. He will be playing just 2 hours and 15 minutes away from his hometown of Toulouges in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

A new Spanish adventure for Hugo Benitez

It’s official as of Saturday, June 14: Hugo Benitez (1.92m, 24 years old) will wear Manresa’s colors for the next three seasons. Born in Perpignan and trained at JL Bourg’s youth academy, the point guard had been loyal to his development club since 2016 and joined the professional team in 2019.

After a strong 2024-2025 season in Betclic ÉLITE (8.2 points and 5 assists for 11.8 evaluation in 21 minutes) and performing well in EuroCup (8.8 points and 5.2 assists for 12.3 evaluation), the Catalan arrives at Manresa to discover Liga Endesa and take his career to the next level.

« This is his first experience outside his country, » reminds the Catalan club’s press release, which is betting on the French point guard’s playmaking ability and energy.

Manresa aims to return to the top

Finishing tenth in the last regular season of Liga Endesa (17 wins – 17 losses), Manresa aims to return to the playoffs with this signing. The recruitment of a player recognized on the European scene like Hugo Benitez shows the Catalan club’s desire to strengthen their point guard position, a key sector in hoping to reach the next level in an increasingly competitive Liga.

A French U20 international who has already appeared in FIBA windows with the national team, Hugo Benitez joins a team known for developing creative players. This change of scenery could allow him to continue his progression and move closer to his dream of playing in EuroLeague, possibly with FC Barcelona, in the future.
