Following the information published this Thursday, October 1st, regarding unpaid amounts claimed by Joffrey Lauvergne from ASVEL, Tony Parker has responded. The Rhône club's president notably disputes the existence, at this stage, of a recruiting ban linked to this case.

Tony Parker: "No recruiting ban has been issued"

Contacted by BeBasket, Tony Parker conveyed ASVEL's position regarding the dispute with its former power forward.

"The club is taking note of the requests and claims made by Joffrey Lauvergne through the press.

As a reminder, the club and the player jointly agreed to end their contractual agreement early, with an indemnity paid to the player as of June 30, 2025.

EuroLeague is requesting additional information, which the club is in the process of providing.

In the current state of the ongoing proceedings, no sanction has been taken and no recruiting ban has been issued against ASVEL.

The club is in contact with EuroLeague to provide all the information needed to resolve this situation."

ASVEL thus states that it has not been informed by EuroLeague of any sanction or ban on registering new players linked to the Joffrey Lauvergne case.

Since the 2024-2025 season, systems have governed the financial rules imposed on EuroLeague clubs, through the Management Control Commission (MCC) and the Competitive Balance Standards (CBS).

ASVEL claims to have paid the amounts owed to Joffrey Lauvergne

Joffrey Lauvergne had joined Villeurbanne in the summer of 2022, signing for three seasons, through 2025. Before his departure, both parties had agreed that the remaining amounts owed to the player would be paid during the 2025-2026 season. According to the position communicated by ASVEL, these payments have indeed been made.

The information published this Thursday reported an amount still claimed by the former French international (300,000 euros) and a ban on registering new players, as was the case for AS Monaco last season. The club therefore disputes this account and assures that no such sanction has been issued to it as part of the dispute with its former player.

Another registration ban exists in the financial fair play case

This position should not, however, be confused with another financial case concerning ASVEL. As part of the Competitive Balance Standards (CBS), the Lyon-Villeurbanne club had not reached the Low Remuneration Level set by EuroLeague for the 2025-2026 season. The governing body has asked the club to distribute 1,280,924 euros among the players registered for the 2025-2026 season in order to make up the difference with the minimum remuneration level. The club does intend to pay this amount.
