Theo Maledon relapses right upon his return with Real Madrid

After missing part of the preseason due to an adductor problem, Theo Maledon (6’4″, 24 years old) thought he would finally get back into competitive rhythm this Saturday evening with Real Madrid. Starting against Tenerife in the Super Cup semi-final, the French international point guard unfortunately only lasted 2 minutes and 36 seconds before having to leave his teammates, suffering a relapse in the same area.
A spoiled return for Theo Maledon
Having arrived in the Spanish capital after his difficult Eurobasket, Theo Maledon had been forced to wait these past two weeks due to an injury. The Madrid medical staff had chosen to be cautious, but the relapse that occurred during his first official match suggests another period of unavailability.

Real Madrid manages without him
Despite the premature exit of their new point guard, Real Madrid managed to turn things around to overcome Tenerife (72-71). Led by Gabriel Deck (12 points including the winning free throws with 21 seconds remaining) and Sergio Llull (12 points, including 6 in crunch time), Madrid secured their ticket to the Super Cup final.
On the other side, veterans Giorgi Shermadini (23 points) and Marcelinho Huertas (14 points) kept Tenerife in the game for long stretches. But Jaime Fernandez’s missed three-pointer in the final moments gave Real a chance to reclaim the trophy for the first time since 2023.
What now?
Real Madrid will face Valencia in the final this Sunday, while the medical staff will need to quickly assess the severity of Theo Maledon’s relapse. This is bad news for both the player and the club, who were counting on him to energize their backcourt this season.
