Armoni Brooks set to leave ASVEL: Partizan Belgrade withdraws its offer

The season hasn’t even started yet and ASVEL is already living through a nightmare summer. Following the departure of Sylvain Francisco, it is now Armoni Brooks‘s turn to edge closer to the exit. As reported, the 28-year-old American guard is indeed expected to leave the Rhône club, which is the victim of a financial crisis that calls its entire sporting project into question.

Ambitions drastically scaled back

ASVEL had made a strong statement in the summer transfer window. The club had signed several high-profile players, including Armoni Brooks, Sylvain Francisco, and Nick Weiler-Babb, as part of an ambitious project. But the failure to finalize an investment agreement on time changed everything. The club’s projected budget is said to have dropped from 59 million euros to around 24 million euros, a staggering fall that forces management to rethink its plans entirely.

The consequences are immediate and painful. Sylvain Francisco has already left ASVEL without playing a single game in his new colors, joining Panathinaikos after the Greek club paid a buyout clause of 450,000 euros. Brooks appears to be on the verge of following the same path.

Real Madrid lurking for the American guard

According to several sources, Armoni Brooks is currently in active discussions with several EuroLeague teams. Partizan Belgrade, who were at one point interested, have withdrawn their offer. However, Real Madrid are still said to be among the possible destinations for the American guard, which would represent a prestigious opportunity for the player despite the difficult circumstances of his departure.

The situation at ASVEL illustrates just how fragile financial stability can be at the highest level of European basketball. Within a matter of weeks, a carefully built project has collapsed, leaving newly signed players in complete uncertainty about their future. For Brooks, the Villeurbanne chapter is closing before it even really began, and he will now have to look elsewhere to build his 2025-2026 season. Other high-profile signings are expected to follow, including Daniel Theis, Joel Bolomboy, and Patty Mills…
