Terry Tarpey, cornerstone of Monaco’s collective effort: « We stepped up »

Betclic ELITE - Terry Tarpey was, as often, a key element in AS Monaco's defensive intensity in game 3 won against Paris Basketball (81-78). The French international discusses the collective turning point of the third quarter and looks ahead to game 4.

Accustomed to working in the shadows, Terry Tarpey (7 points on 3/5 shooting in 15 minutes) once again delivered in a high-intensity game. AS Monaco, trailing 2-0 in the Betclic ELITE finals series, rediscovered its defensive DNA and team play (27 assists) to secure a crucial victory against Paris Basketball (81-78). After the game, the former Le Mans player praised the team’s collective pride.

« We need everyone to step up »

In a game where Roca Team outscored Paris 30-15 in the third quarter alone, Terry Tarpey emphasized the collective response: « We showed what we’re capable of doing together. As soon as we started moving the ball again and defending better, we regained confidence. »

The key stat? « 27 assists. That’s the playing style we’ve rediscovered since our staff arrived. We always want to create advantageous situations. »

« The run came from defense »

Against a Paris team known for its fast-paced game, ASM managed to raise its level, particularly at the start of the second half. « The coach said at halftime that we needed to step up. He proposed a new system, we applied it, and it worked. »

For Tarpey, the turning point came « when we really stepped up our defense in the third quarter. That’s what launched the run and the comeback. » A collective effort where everyone contributed, « even those who don’t fill up the stat sheet. »

« Jaron was huge »

Impressed by Jaron Blossomgame (26 points, including 17 in the third quarter), Tarpey was full of praise: « His third quarter? Maybe the best of his life. We’re all happy for him. We need him, just like we need everyone. »

Elie Okobo, also praised by Tarpey, delivered a high-level performance. « He almost had to have a game like this if we wanted to pull through. »

Tarpey promises a « dogfight » for game 4

For Tarpey, this wasn’t an upset, but a game worthy of the stakes: « This is a final. Nobody thought Paris would sweep Monaco. We simply protected our home court. »

With game 4 approaching (Sunday at 4:30 PM), he warns: « It will be a dogfight. It’s always physical against Paris, they’re fast, take lots of shots, they fight for rebounds. It will come down to details. » And this despite tired bodies. « Nobody is at 100%. But it’s the finals. We need to finish the job. »
