Steve Kerr brings his son Nicholas to Warriors staff

Steve Kerr has just announced a special promotion within the Golden State Warriors organization. The head coach has integrated his 32-year-old son Nicholas into his technical staff for the upcoming season.
Nicholas Kerr joins the Warriors bench with experience as head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors in G-League over the past two seasons. His results speak for themselves: 20 wins and 14 losses each year, with a fourth place in the Western Conference and playoff appearances each time.
A logical progression following meticulous development
Before taking the reins of Santa Cruz in 2023, Steve Kerr’s son had already worked in the Warriors organization between 2018 and 2021 as a video assistant and in player development. He had also gained experience with the San Antonio Spurs, where he had completed an internship alongside Gregg Popovich.
In February 2024, Nicholas Kerr shared his ambitions: « I love coaching, we’ll see where it takes me. I’m ambitious, but I don’t know… I just like having good jobs in the NBA or G-League. I feel that at this stage, next year, I’ll be better able to find the balance between development, coaching, and strategy. »
Born in Cleveland and raised in San Diego, Nicholas Kerr was also a college player at San Diego and California. He then worked as a graduate assistant at Cal during the 2016-17 season before joining the Spurs. This promotion represents the culmination of a gradual journey in coaching, moving from G-League assistant to head coach, and now NBA assistant.
Steve Kerr, 59, has been leading the Warriors for 11 seasons. Under his direction, Golden State has a record of 567 wins to 308 losses in regular season, with 104 playoff victories, four NBA titles and six NBA Finals appearances. Could a passing of the torch be underway?
