Arriving in 2014 and 2016, Mathieu Guichard (1.88m, 37 years old) and Jonathan Hoyaux (1.96m, 36 years old) have left their mark on SCABB’s recent history, which this season became the new merged entity between Saint-Chamond, Andrézieux-Bouthéon and La Pontoise. In Pro B 2024-2025, Guichard averages 5.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 4 assists in 36 games. Hoyaux, for his part, posts 8.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2 assists in 29 appearances.
« Their contribution has been invaluable both athletically and personally, » the club emphasized in its statement. A tribute will be paid to them this Wednesday evening at the Arena Saint-Étienne Métropole after hosting Fos-sur-Mer.
While leaving the club, the two veterans don’t plan to retire immediately. « I still feel physically good and would like to continue playing, » Guichard stated in February to Le Progrès. Meanwhile, the point guard is pursuing coaching training, wisely anticipating his transition.
Jonathan Hoyaux shares the same desire to continue. Despite turning 37 in July, the shooting guard has recently shined with 17 points against Denain and a perfect 3/3 from behind the arc at Châlons-Reims. Also invested off the court, he’s preparing for the future by pursuing a university degree in management at Lyon 1. While not considering coaching, he wishes to remain involved in the club’s development in the future.
A new chapter for SCABB
These departures coincide with another turning point within SCABB, which is preparing to hand over the team’s reins to Guillaume Quintard, current coach of Andrézieux’s reserve team. He should succeed Maxime Nélaton, while Marc Berjoan (Roanne’s U21 coach) is expected to take over at Andrézieux.
It’s therefore a turning page for SCABB, but also a final symbolic meeting this Wednesday evening at the Arena to honor two exemplary careers dedicated to the same jersey.
