A confirmation season in ELITE 2
Having come through Nancy’s training center, where he was named MVP of the 2023-2024 Youth Championship, Guillaume Grotzinger is having a solid second season with Champagne Basket.
Under Vincent Dumestre, the Alsatian has established himself as one of the division’s most productive point guards. He’s averaging 13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 23 minutes per game in ELITE 2, with solid shooting percentages (45.7% from the field including 37.8% from 3-point range).
These numbers place him in the Top 20 scorers and Top 10 assist leaders in the league, while being the fifth-best French scorer and eighth-best French assist leader in the division.
In the French Cup, he’s also averaging 13.5 points and 4.5 assists in his appearances.
Significant improvement in one year
Guillaume Grotzinger’s trajectory is clearly on the rise. Last season, with a struggling Champagne Basket team, he averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
In one year, he has nearly doubled his offensive impact, particularly thanks to greater responsibility in the offense and improved efficiency from beyond the arc.
This progress has not gone unnoticed, especially among American recruiters.
The NCAA, a strategic choice?
According to his agents Kyle Drennan, Raphaël Gaston and Thomas Viglianco of E1 Sports, Guillaume Grotzinger is actively exploring the NCAA option for next season.
A choice that could allow him to continue his development while securing a lucrative contract and gaining visibility on the international stage.
At 21, the timing raises questions but also aligns with a recent trend: many European players are now choosing the NCAA, which pays handsomely for players already proven at the professional level.
Now it remains to be seen which university will make a concrete move for the French point guard… and whether he will choose to cross the Atlantic.
