Rémi Giuitta becomes president of Fos Provence Basket

NM1 - After turning the page on his coaching career, Rémi Giuitta takes the presidency of Fos Provence Basket and wants to embody the rebound.
Rémi Giuitta becomes president of Fos Provence Basket

During Fos Provence Basket’s season presentation this Thursday evening, Rémi Giuitta officially succeeded William Raffa as president of the SAS. A historic figure of the club, the former coach takes on a role he had long refused, but which he now considers « logical » and necessary to write a new chapter in yellow and black.

« A true passing of the torch »

The emotion was palpable in Fos-sur-Mer. Former coach of the club, deeply connected to its history – his father was one of the founders and participated in building the Parsemain venue – Rémi Giuitta explained accepting this mission as a natural continuation. « It’s a true honor for me… It’s a real passing of the torch, of transmission », he declared, quoted by La Provence.

After a difficult end of season, marked by relegation to Nationale 1 (NM1), the new president wants to set the club on a path of reconstruction. « When I saw the enthusiasm despite the sporting failure, it reinforced my desire to be part of a rebound dynamic », he confided. The loyalty of partners, particularly the city of Fos-sur-Mer, also influenced his decision.

Alexandre Mazzia among the advisors

To carry out this mission, Rémi Giuitta will rely on a strengthened council, including starred chef Alexandre Mazzia, a former basketball player, who will bring his nutrition expertise, and Didier Khelfa, former mayor of Saint-Chamas. « This was the club’s major weakness throughout all these years », admitted Rémi Giuitta.

Focus on sports

While the president doesn’t wish to be directly involved in sports matters, he will closely follow Emmanuel Schmitt and his team’s beginnings. Fos Provence Basket will start its season this Saturday (8pm) in the French Cup, hosting Hyères-Toulon (Elite 2).
