Real Madrid continued their impressive home form with a hard-fought 92-84 victory over Virtus Bologna, extending what has become the best home record in the EuroLeague this season. The Spanish giants have now won 14 of their 15 games at the Movistar Arena, though they were pushed to their limits by a determined Italian side.

Edwards leads Virtus charge but lacks support

Carsen Edwards put on a spectacular display for the visitors, particularly in the first half where he scored 20 points with an almost perfect shooting performance. The American guard’s lethal accuracy from beyond the arc, combined with Nicolas Vildoza’s creative plays and solid contributions from Niang in the paint, gave Virtus an early advantage and kept them competitive throughout the contest.

However, Edwards received insufficient support from his teammates when it mattered most. After his explosive first-half performance, Real Madrid‘s defense successfully contained the dynamic guard, limiting him to just four points in the third quarter. Despite Edwards’ efforts to facilitate for his teammates with quality assists, the supporting cast couldn’t maintain the offensive pressure needed to secure an upset victory.

Tavares and Hezonja lead Madrid’s response

Real Madrid‘s response was built around dominant performances from their key players. Walter Tavares was particularly impressive, showcasing his defensive prowess with intimidating rim protection and delivering a statement block on Niang to open the second half. The Cape Verdean center followed up his defensive dominance by scoring five consecutive points, helping Madrid establish their largest lead of the night at ten points.

Mario Hezonja provided crucial offensive contributions alongside Tavares, while the bench unit led by Maledon brought energy and fluidity to Madrid’s attack. Facundo Campazzo capped off the first half with a spectacular 3-pointer from half-court, and Sergio Llull delivered key shots in the final quarter when the pressure mounted.

The victory keeps Real Madrid firmly positioned among the top teams in the EuroLeague standings, as coach Sergio Scariolo’s squad continues to make their home court a fortress. Despite the competitive nature of the contest and Dusko Ivanovic’s tactical adjustments for Virtus, Madrid’s superior depth and home-court advantage ultimately proved decisive in securing another important victory in their EuroLeague campaign.
