Player Profile
At just 19 years old, Ulrich Kamka Chomche already carries the weight of modern African basketball history on his shoulders. This Cameroonian center, born in Bafang in the West Province, has carved out a unique path that took him from the courts of his hometown neighborhood all the way to the NBA hardwood, becoming the first former Basketball Africa League player to be drafted into the North American league.
Growing up as one of 16 siblings in a household where soccer reigns supreme, Ulrich chose a different road. At age 11, encouraged by friends who saw him as the tallest kid in the neighborhood, he discovered basketball. That seemingly minor decision would go on to transform his destiny. A year later, he headed to the NBA Academy Africa in Saly, Senegal, where the young prodigy refined his game while learning English.
Chomche's defensive skills, particularly his shot-blocking instincts, quickly caught the attention of international scouts. Joakim Noah himself praised his exceptional potential. That recognition became official in 2023 when he earned his first call-up to the senior Cameroonian national team for the World Cup qualifiers, confirming his meteoric rise.
The youngest player in the 2024 NBA Draft, Chomche was forced to face adversity when he suffered a partial medial collateral ligament tear in February 2025, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Rather than breaking him, this setback may well forge the character of this promising talent, who continues to embody the hopes of African basketball on the world stage.

Ulrich Chomche made history by becoming one of the youngest players to compete in the Basketball Africa League before making the leap to the NBA.
- Made his Basketball Africa League (BAL) debut at just 16 years old in 2022 with Cameroonian club FAP as part of the BAL Elevate program
- Posted averages of 2.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, with a personal best of 7 rebounds against Petro de Luanda in April 2022
- Played for Rwanda Energy Group (REG) during the 2023 BAL season, then was drafted by APR in 2024 before being released from the roster to prepare for the NBA Draft
- Selected 57th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies before being traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he signed a two-way contract with the Raptors 905
- Averaged 0.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists in his first seven games with Toronto
