Player Profile
At just 16 years old, Tyler Smith made a decision that would redefine his path: forgoing college to join Overtime Elite and fast-track his journey to the NBA. That boldness perfectly reflects the spirit of a player shaped by adversity from an early age.
Born in New Orleans in 2004, Smith's life was upended at age one when Hurricane Katrina forced his family to relocate to Houston. It was in Texas, at George Bush High School, that the 6'7" power forward revealed his exceptional potential. Ranked among the top eight high school players in the country by ESPN in 2023, he drew interest from the most prestigious universities in America.
Yet Smith chose an alternative route by signing with the Overtime Elite Cold Hearts. That early professional experience allowed him to sharpen his skills before joining the NBA G League Ignite for the 2023-24 season. His gamble paid off: the Milwaukee Bucks selected him 33rd overall in the 2024 Draft, recognizing him as a high-upside prospect.
On October 23, 2024, Smith stepped onto an NBA court for the first time in a Bucks uniform. A few weeks later, he contributed to Milwaukee's NBA Cup victory, quickly moving up and down between the main roster and their G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.
At 20 years old, Tyler Smith embodies a new generation of players who are no longer hesitant to take unconventional paths to reach their goals. His unique journey and determination make him a promising piece of the Bucks' roster for years to come.
