Player Profile

Who could have predicted that a 6'2" teenager would become a formidable NBA big man? Paul Reed, nicknamed "BBall Paul", underwent a spectacular physical transformation at Wekiva High School, gaining nearly 6 inches to reach 6'8" in his senior year. This growth spurt revealed a raw talent that led him all the way to the Florida State Championship final, where he posted impressive averages of 18.2 points and 11.4 rebounds, earning him the Central Florida Player of the Year award.

A three-star recruit, Reed chose DePaul University despite several other college offers. His time with the Blue Demons was marked by steady improvement, fueled by a remarkable work ethic he partly credits to teammate Max Strus. That determination led him to enter the 2020 NBA Draft after his junior season.

Selected 58th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers, Reed began his professional career on a two-way contract, splitting time between the NBA and the Delaware Blue Coats in the G League. His boundless energy, defensive intensity, and athleticism on both ends of the floor quickly built him a strong reputation, as did his likable personality and unique social media presence.

In July 2024, Reed joined the Detroit Pistons, navigating a period of uncertainty that included a release followed by a re-signing in December. His journey, defined by resilience and continuous improvement, perfectly illustrates his ability to bounce back from adversity. With a new two-year contract secured in June 2025, "BBall Paul" appears to have found his home in Michigan, ready to keep climbing in the league.
