When Onuralp Bitim steps onto European courts this season with Bayern Munich, he carries with him the family legacy of Fenerbahçe and the scars of an injury that could have shattered his NBA dreams. Born in Kadıköy in 1999, this versatile shooting guard-small forward grew up in a household where basketball ran in the blood: his father Mustafa Kemal had represented the men's side of Fenerbahçe, and his mother Hilal Ertunalı the women's team.
A lifelong supporter of the Istanbul club, Bitim paradoxically built his career by moving through several Turkish organizations — Anadolu Efes, Sigortam.net İTÜ BB, Pınar Karşıyaka, Frutti Extra Bursaspor — before fulfilling his dream of finally joining Fenerbahçe Beko. But another dream was waiting for him across the Atlantic.
The 2023-24 season was supposed to mark the peak of his young career with the Chicago Bulls. The 6'5" forward was experiencing the NBA firsthand, splitting time between the main roster and the Windy City Bulls in the G League, while proudly representing Turkey on the international stage during the FIBA World Cup 2023 qualifiers. Then came April 2024: a retinal detachment requiring surgery that prematurely ended his rookie season.
Far from being discouraged, Bitim bounced back by signing with his beloved club Fenerbahçe, before being loaned to Bayern Munich for 2024-25. This stint in Germany represents an opportunity to rediscover his best form and prove that his versatility on the perimeter remains a valuable asset for the future.

Onuralp Bitim climbed every rung of European basketball before earning his shot in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls.
